Dixie's on Grand

December 9,2010.

After our QI project presentation we decided to go Dixie's for lunch. Dixie's is a restaurant that offers Southern comfort food.At first glance I couldn't find many vegetarian items but as I looked closer I found a few including the vegetarian chili, The black bean veggie stacker, baked mushrooms, fried green tomatoes and veggies black bean cakes. I decided to go ahead and get black bean veggie stacker. It is a burger with black bean cakes, hot pepper cheese, grilled onions, peppers, and a side of spicy remoulade. The burger came with coleslaw and choice of sides (fries, mashed potatoes, fried green beans, corn on the cob, black eyed peas, and succotash). I was warned that the green beans had bacon in them and that the gravy was okay to eat since it was cream based. After much debate I chose the fries. The coleslaw was great after the addition of some salt and pepper. The fries were superb and crisp but not overly so. As far as the main dish I loved the pepper jack cheese and the veggies and was thankful for once not to have yellow squash and zucchini on it. The remoulade (usually aioli or mayo based sauce) itself was spicy but a little on the sour side.Overall the food was good. The wait staff was friendly. Since we went as a large group it did take a while to get the checks figured out. Other than that it was a positive experience.
